WESTBROOK WINS SEVENTH WITH SOS AT HUMBERSTONE

PORT COLBORNE, Ont. – August 13, 2017 – Dylan Westbrook started on the pole and led all 25 laps to score his seventh victory of the season with the Southern Ontario Sprints during the Series’ second visit of the year to the Port Colborne, Ont. track on Sunday night.

Westbrook started on the front row with 2013 Series champion Chris Jones, but quickly pulled out to a comfortable lead. Jones, meanwhile, had to contend with second row starters Shawn Sliter and Ryan Turner. Turner was able to pull alongside Jones on the top side of the track and claim the second position after three laps.

By lap five, Westbrook had already distanced himself from the field by a straightaway over Turner. However, his advantage was eliminated on lap seven when Jim Porter spun in turn two, got up on two wheels and tipped gently on his side to bring out a red flag. He was uninjured and able to continue.

On the restart, Westbrook pulled away from the field again with a lapped car buffer separating him from Turner. The restart saw Cory Turner take third from Chris Jones and led to a battle between the Turner brothers for second at the halfway mark.

With 11 laps to go, Cory found his way past younger brother Ryan and set out to track down Westbrook who was in heavy lapped traffic. Turner narrowed the gap from a full straightaway to five car lengths, but got stuck behind a pair of slower cars racing side-by-side with five laps to go, allowing Westbrook to regain an advantage he couldn’t overcome.

The victory was Westbrook’s fifth straight with the SOS, a streak that started back at Ohsweken Speedway on June 30. Cory Turner’s run from the eighth starting spot to second earned him the Hard Charger award. Westbrook, Ryan Turner and Jones won qualifying heats.

The Southern Ontario Sprints continue their 2017 season with a doubleheader at Brighton Speedway during the Ulramar Labour Day Classic weekend on September 2-3. The Series will have two complete shows during the back-to-back showdown. For additional event information, visit www.brightonspeedway.ca.
