Southern Ontario Sprints Logo Refreshed
By Peter Turford
SELKIRK, Ont. (January 19, 2023) - In the early 2000’s the Southern Ontario Sprints received an unsolicited letter from a race fan saying he had designed a logo for the SOS, and wondered if we wanted to see it. Our reaction was instant amazement! He had designed what we truly believed then and still to this day “the perfect logo. That race fan was Greg Calnan. You probably know Greg today as the Ohsweken Speedway announcer, or for his company Image Factor, a multi-faceted
design company focused mainly on racing.
With the recent restructuring of the SOS, we felt a design refresh of the logo could signal a new beginning for the organization. We wanted the updated logo to respect Greg's original design, which we all loved, while at the same time we wanted to modernize the look. All aspects of the original design were kept, while all the lines have been updated, and the most drastic change was reflected in the "O" which now speaks more directly to Canadian and Ontario sprint car racing. Shown at the top of this page is the result of those efforts. Jeffrey Turford took on the challenge to handle the design work, and we are very pleased with the end result as we feel it respects the SOS history, Greg’s genius, and a new beginning.
